MESH Moms is relatively new in Charlotte, and ours was their first group outside of Huntersville. The name stands for Mothers Empowered With Support & Humor, which is a pretty accurate summary of what I got out of it. It started in Atlanta in the summer of 2023, when two moms, Martina Stellmaszek and Juliana Caspari, decided to build a network for moms after one of them found something similar during the pandemic. It’s now in Atlanta, Greenville, Charlotte, and Nashville.

### Getting there

We met every Monday from 1:15pm to 2:30pm at Axiom Chiropractic (413 S Sharon Amity Rd, Suite A) in Cotswold, in central South Charlotte. The pod runs six weeks, and we skipped the Monday of Labor Day. Ours started August 3.

### The pod

![PHOTO-2026-09-28-16-43-06](https://www.thecharlottesprout.com/hs-fs/hubfs/PHOTO-2026-09-28-16-43-06.jpg?width=500&height=667&name=PHOTO-2026-09-28-16-43-06.jpg)

A postpartum pod is a small cohort of moms with babies born in the same window, led by a postpartum doula with a different expert coming in most weeks. They cap it at 10 mom and baby pairs. Ours had three, and one of the other moms was also in my Mom League group, so I got some fun continuity. I did both, and each had its own feel: Mom League was a group of around 11, and this was the three of us. We got to know each other better than we would have if we’d only been in one group together. Annie was the youngest. She was two weeks old when I started, and the other babies were somewhere around six to eight weeks.

The six weeks, per the schedule:

1. Introduction
2. Breast and Bottle Feeding
3. Sleep Coaching
4. Pelvic Floor 101
5. Postpartum Emotions
6. Wrap-up

### The people

Our group leader, Syd (Sydaiya Oladimeji), is a certified postpartum doula, newborn care specialist, and sleep conditioning educator. She has 16 years of experience, has cared for over 100 babies, and created The Newborn Sleep Method. She was also willing and able to answer questions in the middle of the night about sleep or postpartum stuff in general, which I loved. She’s very experienced and has a calming presence.![9b43d1\_f19fa4242f4c49a7ba56f69aa0cda611~mv2](https://www.thecharlottesprout.com/hubfs/9b43d1_f19fa4242f4c49a7ba56f69aa0cda611~mv2.avif)The rest of the roster:

- **Melissa Bradley**, a pediatric occupational therapist and certified lactation counselor, who runs Mama & Babe.
- **Dr. Brenda Gajowski**, a women’s health physical therapist at She Thrives Physical Therapy and Wellness.
- **Dr. Megan Hullihen**, co-owner of Axiom Chiropractic, who hosted us.
- **Kristin Trick**, a licensed counselor with Grounded Counseling & Services.

All the experts they brought in seemed relevant and knowledgeable and were non-judgmental, which is what you want from a safe space like this.

### My experience

I loved how small it was. We had plenty of time to talk, to chat, to share experiences, and the setting felt intimate. I could tell it would be easier for anyone who’s introverted or nervous, or who has a question they think is stupid (no questions are stupid, but you know some people feel that way).

Each Monday had its own topic, starting with feeding in week two, then sleep coaching, pelvic floor, and postpartum emotions, and a different expert came in most weeks. The sleep week was one of my favorites. Syd talked to us about sleep shaping rather than sleep training, which is a much more gentle approach and makes for better longer term sleep habits.

The pelvic floor week is the one I remember most. Only two of us made it that day, so instead of a talk, we got on the floor. She checked our posture and our pelvic floor (not an internal exam, obviously), showed us exercises, and corrected our form. It was really interactive.

With so few of us, we also had a lot of time to vent and commiserate. The girls were there for me when I had my health issues, and it was nice to be able to talk about them and get their support.

Mondays were good timing, too. Annie was two weeks old when I started, so I was still in the adrenaline phase and she was still sleeping all the time. I was mostly just glad to have an excuse to get out of the house and put on real clothes.

### The one drawback

The small group made scheduling a bit harder. For our last session, two of us couldn’t make it, and rescheduling was tough as people were going back to work. That session was supposed to be with the chiropractor who hosted us, giving a spiel about chiropractic offerings for babies, and we never got to it. Instead we met for coffee at Amelie’s on Park Road. It had been a couple of weeks since our last session, and it was really nice to see how much the babies had grown, especially Annie, who went from two weeks to two months with these women along the way. We learned about everybody’s family dynamics, what was going on in their lives, and what was working and what wasn’t.

### After the pod

Registering for the pod includes a MESH Moms annual membership. That gets you into the private WhatsApp group, which is pretty active and has been great for seeing the questions people ask and who’s coming to which event. It also gets you invitations to events and meetups throughout the year, some focused on postpartum or pregnancy and some more like playgroups. If you’re new to Charlotte, it’s a nice way to get out to new places and meet people going through the same thing you are.

### Is it worth it?

Highly recommend. Even if you’re past the postpartum stage or don’t have the time or money for a pod, look into a MESH Moms membership and what it includes. Their events are open to the public. They’re pretty much always free for members, and non-members pay a small fee per event (usually around $10). And they’re really fun. 💙
