The Playground Worth the Drive (I Know, I Know, It's in South Carolina)

I'm going to be upfront with you: Trailhead Park is in Tega Cay, South Carolina. That is not a typo. You will cross state lines. And I'm still telling you to go.
I was honestly tempted to gatekeep this one. But I can't do it. You need to know about it.

Getting There
Trailhead Park is at 7714 Tega Cay Drive, Tega Cay, SC 29708. From south Charlotte it's probably 30 to 40 minutes depending on where you're coming from. Yes, that's a real drive. Bring snacks for the car. It's worth it.
No Tega Cay Parking Permit is required, so visitors can come and go without any hassle. There are two parking lots: a decent-sized main lot and a smaller one around the corner. We went on a Wednesday morning and it was pretty crowded, but the park is big enough that it honestly didn't matter.
One heads-up: because the park was designed to be inclusive and accessible, about half of the parking area is designated handicap spots. Plan accordingly.

What's There
This is not a standard Charlotte city park situation. Trailhead Park's playground was built through a partnership between the City of Tega Cay and a nonprofit called All Play Together, with a mission to create a space where individuals of all ages and abilities can play, learn, and explore together. You can tell someone actually thought about this. The whole thing feels intentional in a way that a lot of playgrounds just don't.
The playground has poured rubber all the way around it, ramps wide enough for wheelchairs and parents, fully backed harness swings, a zipline with harness versions, musical instruments, and a rocking platform ride. There's a big playground, a little playground, a merry-go-round, a playhouse, and plenty of swings. The whole thing is fully fenced, which if you have a runner, you already know what that means to you.
There are parent benches with shade canopies over them. Picnic tables. A small bathroom on site. The musical section is a real hit: drums and a big xylophone that the kids can actually play. Not decorative. Actually fun.

It was clearly designed by someone who has had small children and was tired of playgrounds that are fun for kids and miserable for adults. There's pretty much nothing about it I would change.
Our Experience
We got there around 10 on a Wednesday morning and stayed about an hour. I brought both my girls, Claire who is three and Catherine who is 13 months. Claire was in full playground mode. Catherine still had a great time, and she's not even walking yet. That's the thing about this park: it genuinely works for the babies and the bigger kids at the same time. Most playgrounds are really designed for the elementary-school set, with the toddler section as an afterthought. Not here.
We came on a cloudy day, so I can't totally speak to the shade situation in full sun. There are shade canopy umbrellas throughout but they're not huge. If you're going on a hot sunny day, plan for that.
The Insider Take
Go on a weekday morning if you can swing it. It was crowded even then, but the space is big enough that it doesn't feel chaotic.
The drive is the only real con here. Everything else is a pro. If you have a kid who needs a fully fenced space, or a toddler who is still figuring out big playgrounds, or a kid who will lose their mind over a xylophone, make the drive.
